Towns & Villages
FAYENCE
This is a delightful ancient hill top village full of quaint narrow streets and little shops. It derives
its name from “favourable location” in Latin. There is a big choice of restaurants and open air
cafes with superb views of distant hills and other villages nearby. You should visit Eglise St-
JeanBaptiste which has frescoes and a baroque marble altar. There is also a little theatre which
puts on concerts and plays throughout the year.
SEILLANS
A charming medieval village that has been recognized as one of the ‘most beautiful villages in
France’. Filled with cobblestone lanes, a square with fountains and many ancient buildings it’s
a lovely place to explore for a couple of hours. The old part of town is fascinating and there are
fabulous views of the surrounding countryside. There are several restaurants and bars and a few
galleries & shops, including a supermarket.
MONTAUROUX
Another perched medieval village with splendid views over rolling, forested landscapes leading to
the coast of the French Riviera. The 11th and 12th Century chapels are worth visiting and nearby is
an ancient church dedicated to the memory of Christian Dior, who chose a chateau nearby as his
summer residence.
LE TIGNET
A tiny, quiet village. A get-away-from-it-all place.
CALLAS
A really colourful village. It is a hive of activity throughout the year. Have a morning coffee in one
of the pavement cafés, looking out across the Church of Notre Damn and the bell tower. There are
tennis courts and there’s a great gift shop.
