Unmissable Korcula

Our guide to the local secret gems...

Towns & Villages

Korcula Town
Often affectionately named ‘Little Dubrovnik’ for its many similarities to that iconic city. The main town itself is on a peninsula, with many little lanes leading directly down to the water’s edge. It was built under Venetian influences, the old town is shaped in a fish bone, acting as an architectural form of air conditioning to keep its inhabitants cool and comfortable, protected from the effects of the wind and the sun.

Vrnik Arts Club
Situated on one of the islets in Korčula’s archipelago, this restaurant offers great food on the tranquil terrace in front of what was once the island’s school. One of our favourites.

Do & See

Ošjak
The tiny uninhabited island of Ošjak sits within Vela Luka harbour, only 15 minutes by taxi boat from the town. Paths lead through the pine forest to rocky coves where you can swim in relative seclusion. Bring everything you need with you, as there's nothing on the island.

Korcula Town Museum
A large collection relating to the history of Korcula inside a 15thC building.

Toreta Winery
To sample the local white, Pošip, visit this welcoming family-run winery in Smokvica.

Shopping

Korcula Town has a few supermarket/grocery shops and some good bakeries.

Cukarin
A Croatian-style patisserie famous for its whisper-light, crescent-shaped little biscuits which are traditionally dipped in prošek wine. Try also the irresistibly chocolatey bombice and stock up on Korčulan wine, olive oil and specialty chocolate bars.
Korcula Town

Boya Shop & Atelier

Extremely random but completely wonderful shop selling hand-designed childrens crayons. The shop has a children’s corner where they can ‘try before you buy’. Very sweet.
Korcula Town

Eko škoj
Eco shop selling delicious home-grown local produce.
